Abstract

This article aims to discuss the real estate as a force of metropolitan development, taking into account the analysis of the production of space in Porto das Dunas, coastal area of the Metropolitan Area of Fortaleza (MAF), which became a privileged territory for real estate investments mainly related to tourism. The high concentration of real estate investments in a short period of time reinforced the property development as a central element in the production of space, consolidating a new front in the process of metropolization. In our hypothesis, the dominance of real estate in the production of this space renders specific characteristics that we seek to discuss by observing the interests of agents historically involved in this process. Based on the spaceÍ€™s instrumentalization concept proposed by Lefebvre (2008), we intend to understand the logic of space production, marked by continuous metropolitan integration, the intense real estate appreciation and negation of the urban as a space of social reproduction.
