Abstract

This article questions about how fear is socially produce in urban context. The main objective is to analyze the relation between insecurity and representation of violence in statistics, and insecurity and urbanism, from a perspective define as urban imaginaries. The study is based on the research results of the investigation project called Urban Imaginaries coordinated by Armando Silva. The essay concludes that the social sense of fear is the result of multiple intersections of discourses of citizen security and the political economy of cities.
