Abstract

The many facets of gentrification make it a complex process, a condition
that challenges both empirical approaches and the possibility of measuring it. This articleÍ proͬposes a methodology for the identification of urban areas, the evolution of whichÍ respond to a gentrification process. On the one hand, this proposal is based on the use of theÍ city scale as an initial approach. On the other hand, it is also based on the need to analyzeÍ the cityÍ€™s historical evolution in order to understand such processes. This methodology isÍ applied to Seville in the context of the 1987 General Planning framework. It aims toÍ recognize the existence of the process of gentrification in certain urban areas as well as toÍ differentiate gentrification from processes of a different nature.
